Sankofa Concert: Underground, a Musical
Tickets are FREE but must be obtained from Eventbrite.com; donations to our 501c3 organization are welcome and may also be made on Eventbrite.com.  It is listed on the website as the First Annual Sankofa Concert.

The First Annual Sankofa Concert will feature song and dance from Underground, a breath-stopping musical that captures one slave's faith and determination to gain freedom for his family. Underground features songs from the 21-times award winning film and play, “Hear the Sound of Freedom.”  Written by Akil DuPont, filmmaker, playwright & educator (www.DuPontProductions.net) and graduate of FSU's Film School, and directed by Lili Forbes, of Tallahassee.  Music written by Nicholas Wheeler, Michael Gilreath, Curtis Bryant, James Deckle, John Hardon II, Tom & Judy Coogle, Noah Jackson and Christopher Rochester.by local musicians, singers, actors and dancers.

Beginning Guitar Workshop

Open to students ages 3-6 and their parents (at least one parent must attend the camp) who have little or no prior guitar experience.Cost: $50 for one parent and one student (additional students are $25, additional parents are free!)What: This two-day workshop is designed for students and parents who want to jumpstart their guitar learning journey and intend to continue with Suzuki guitar lessons at Music Lessons Express. Dr. Ben will work with students and parents on guitar fundamentals, ear-training, and music games. Students must provide their own guitar for the workshop.

Parental attendance is strongly encouraged, especially for younger students.Cost: $50 per student What: This two-day workshop is designed for students in Suzuki Violin Book 1 (students must be able to play a minimum of Twinkle Little Star). Ms. Erin will guide students through the instrument technique, ear-training, and music theory necessary for successful early violin playing. String Orchestra Intermediate Camp (TRAA)

Thomasville Road Academy of the Arts offers a string camp in summer 2019 for intermediate string players (violin, viola, cello, bass), ages 6 to 14. Students should have a basic knowledge of music reading and have been studying strings in school or privately for at least one year. All students are responsible to bring their own instrument and folding stand. Enrolled students will take part in a large string orchestra experience as well as smaller chamber group assignments. A typical day will include a brief Bible study on the topic of music and worship, chamber group practices/coachings, orchestra sectionals, full orchestra rehearsal, and a short music theory/music history class. A concert will be given on Friday at 11 am for parents and family to attend, showcasing the string orchestra and chamber groups.
