The spectacular and colorful two-time Grammy® Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir returns to North America with Songs of the Free, a very special program celebrating the centenary of the birth of the father of their rainbow nation, Nelson Mandela. Songs of the Free will include South African classics as well as freedom songs and gospel music much loved by Mandela for whom the Soweto Gospel Choir had the privilege of performing in front of on multiple times during his life. Direct from South Africa, Soweto Gospel Choir is an awe-inspiring 20-member ensemble that thrills audiences worldwide with their stunning blend of African gospel music, spirituals and American popular music. The Tallahassee Civic Chorale will present its fall concert “Joy, Peace & Hope” at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, December 11 at Turner Auditorium on the Tallahassee Community College campus, accompanied by special guests The Capital Children's Choir from FSU.The Children's Choir will sing several selections of their own, in addition to singing “Music Changes the World” and “You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” with the Chorale.This concert will appeal to all ages, offering a broad range of seasonal and holiday music, from traditional carols such as The First Noel, to popular seasonal music such as Feliz Navidad and hauntingly beautiful songs such as O Magnum Mysterium. There will also be a free cookie reception after the concert to help us spread even more holiday cheer!Tickets for the concert are $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and students, and free for Tallahassee Community College students with identification. Adult Rock Band is a 60 minute weekly class open to students ages 18 and up who are proficient on guitar, bass, vocals, or drums (other instruments considered). Students will learn how to perform and improvise as a team in a fun and energetic environment. The instructor for this class is gold record artist Rick Brunetti.

The Florida Society Youth Orchestras program (FSYO) is an outreach of Javacya Arts Conservatory, which has provided quality music in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, but primarily in the Tallahassee area for over 30 years. This new subsidiary, FSYO, is designed especially for beginning students with little to no previous musical experience, preschool through high school.Instruction is available for strings, winds, brass and percussion. Students participate in weekly workshop style classes, recitals, outreach performances, as well as monthly master classes, lectures, and group classes which are presented by renowned faculty-artists from the States and abroad, plus local graduate students.

No Cover | Ages 21+ OnlyStephen Ghent A.K.A. “Ghent The DJ” is a Tallahassee based club/mobile DJ. He plays an open format including everything from hiphop, pop, country, rock, and EDM. Ghent started DJ'ing events and weddings back in the mid 2000's under the name “DJ Weezy”, so don't be thrown off if he looks a little familiar. He has since evolved artistically and professionally into who we now know as “Ghent The DJ”. Ghent can been found DJ'ing at some of Tallahassee's biggest parties and events, including Cancuns famous Cinco De Mayo party and Tallahassee's Warrior Project, football games and proms, and some of Tallahassee's hottest spots such as Level 8, Cancuns and our very own mainstage! Mark your calendars now to attend UUCT's Winter Fest! Family time activities will start at 5 p.m. Bring the kids early to get their wiggles out. Our Potluck dinner will start at 6 p.m. Expect music, singing, door prizes, rituals, games, entertainment, silliness and celebrations! Stay later for some singing and drumming at a small fire circle. The event is FREE to attend. Congregants and guests are encouraged to support the event by bringing a potluck food item and by supporting one of the community recipients through gifts or donations (Christmas Connection and/or The Kearney Center). We still need volunteers to contribute their time and talents and welcome all who would like to help make this a true church community event.
